Saddlebag Won't Stay Latched Hardbags

Is there any adjustment on thelatch to make it stay shut? I looked in the service manual and all it has is installation and removal instructions. When I try to latch the bag sometimes it snaps over like it is supposed to but then flips up at the slightest vibration. I always have to lock it which is fine but sometimes is a pain. Now the real problem is sometimes when I try to flip it over it won't snap down. It has a mind of it's own sometimes it will snap and sometimes it won't no matter how much I re-latch it. Then I have to hold it real tight while locking it with the key and I am afraid that I might break the lock one day because when I have to force it, it is real real tight. I know I am not the only one that has had this problem....

How long has it been since you replaced the little springs in the latch?
Also if the bags are pretty full they will open up going down the road.

Loosen the bolts and readjust. If there isn't enough adjustment for what you need consider enlarging the bolt holes one or two drill bit sizes larger. I had to do this with my new bags on one side.

I had one bag that the latch assembly was catching part of the bag where there was a protrusion. I used a small piece of sandpaper and knocked the high spot down, never an issue again.

There was a post here awhile back about this. Check that the material strip is not folding inside the cover and preventing it from closing properly.

I forgot about that, that was a good tip in that thread.

oh yeah the bike is a 2006 with 4000 miles not that old. What is the material strip? The bag seems to latch better when it is stuffed full of things. When it is empty it seems to act up more.

I have had the same problem on 2 different baggers. It happened after i put the detachable hardware on. What happens is that when you put the bracket that holds the rear mount for the saddlebag it pushes it out some and the instructions never tell you to push the front saddle back mount out with a spacer. Well i decided to try to move the front out with a spacer to match the amount oof movement out the rear mount had. Lo and behold it worked, the bags latch fine now. You may have to play with the spacer size to get it to work. All i used was the extra washers i had from the QD hardware. Hope this can help ya
