Dealer kidnapped my bike!
I have an 08 Street Glide that I took in for some warranty work last week. It tends to idle high sometimes and once the throttle wouldn't operate at all until I shut it off and started it again.
I told the guy I was sure that I just fired it up as soon as I turned the key and didn't give it any time to cycle and run it's diagnostics. Anyway, I just wanted the idle fixed. No big deal, right? I went in yesterday to take the bike for the 3 day weekend. If it wasn't finished, I would just bring it back later. HD told the dealer that they can't release the bike. They want them to run a whole bunch of diagnosticsa nd probably replace some special module. ( I forgot which one) It also appears that they want them to take their friggin time doing it. The part is a "protected" part. HD will not allow the dealer to order one until they have jumped through every hoop thrown to them and the old one is returned for evaluation. They won't rush it either. Ground shipping both ways. ( I'm paying for overnight to save time) Nobody seems to be in any hurry. He calls HD and leaves a message. They don't call back until the next day. Yada yada yada. My wife and I were planning to go up the coast next weekend on the bike. We have reservations at this place that is REALLY expensive and will have to cancel (if we even can) or drive the car up there. Driving the car was not what we had planned on at all. Not to mention that I can't ride at all over Memorial Day weekend. I'm wondering if they can really hold my bike if I want it back. This sucks. |
RE: Dealer kidnapped my bike!
Your bike, it seems they should release it or give you a loaner. If they wont release it because they consider it a safety issue I would want that in writting.

RE: Dealer kidnapped my bike!
unfortunately if they feel it is a safety issue --they can try to keep the bike -- however, if you call the police they might change their tune

Where's Choo Choo when ya need him?
|
RE: Dealer kidnapped my bike!
I would demand a rental/loaner bike, especially since they are keeping the bike against your will.

RE: Dealer kidnapped my bike!
That really sucks but when we have a problem vehicle not driveable the manufacturer will supply alternate transportation while the vehicle is being diagnosed and it is not operable. Speak to the service mgr and you should not have any problems.
Good Luck!!!! |
RE: Dealer kidnapped my bike!
I will never go to a dealer again except for a dyno. Have a great small shop here in Wheatridge Colorado

RE: Dealer kidnapped my bike!
Uh, guys...if something happened an' the throttle stuck causin' an accident...who's gonna be sued? C'mon - give the MoCo a break here - they can't release a vehicle they know/feel to have an unsafe condition - they'd be sued outta existance!
I WOULD ask for a loaner, though! |
