Default cluth adjustment question

Do I have to adjust the clutch if the space at the lever is within specs (the width of a dime)?&nbsp\\; I am doing my 5000 service on my 08 and don't wanna mess with it unless necessary.&nbsp\\; Also can I adjust the clutch basket w/o adjusting the cable or vice versa?&nbsp\\; thanx

You should only need to adjust the clutch if you feel slipping when you are accelerating and not&nbsp\\;touching the lever.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; The free play on the handle bar end should be adjusted with the cable adjuster.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; If you are adjusting the clutch in the primary, service manual says adjust cable to full slack.&nbsp\\;\\\\\\; So short answer is you can adjust cable and not clutch, but not clutch without cable.

Don't be afraid to adjust the clutch from the basket. It's very easy to do. Just follow what the manual says. I did it successfully after adjusting the cable didn't do the trick after 18K on the bike.

Took me about 15 min., taking my time. If I can do it, anyone can do it. Why pay a mechanic to do it if not neccessary!
