I wax my windshield so that rain beads up and runs off like with Rain-X. It also seems to make bugs turn loose easier. I wipe with a very wet microfiber to remove bug remains and follow up with a drier one to remove water spots. When water doesn't bead enough to keep the windshield clear in the rain, I apply new wax. If this procedure works on love bugs in northeast Florida, I bet it'll work for you.
I use a product called Purple Slice. Pump spray on, let sit for 15 sec. and bugs come right off ( be sure to only use a microfiber cloth ).
This stuff is amazing but pricey at $ 25.00 a pop. It is also the best product I have ever used to clean my bike between washings.
I sound like a salesman but I am the first to yell when something dosen't work. so I guess I should praise it when it does.
maguier clear plastic polish at walmart even takes out swirl marks and fine scratches
just dont carry it in saddelbags the plastic bottle will rub through from vibrations. dont ask me how i know!
Most brands of wipe and shine products work well, I personally use the Eagle 1 brand of Whipe & Shine. It works very good, and I use it on the whole bike to clean after a ride. My 2 cents
I've heard a half and half mix of hydrogen peroxide and water in a spray bottle works well on the windshield and painted surfaces. Spray it on, let it foam a bit and wipe it off.
I have used Novus cleaner and polish for bugs or Mirrow Glaze#2 it is a cleaner polish that will take out scratches. The last bike I had the windsheild lasted 70k using the two listed here.
+1 on what dawg and leohd said. I like to keep a folded hand size towel in a zip lock bag almost to the point of dripping in the very front of my right saddle bag (stock head pipes). It gets really warm in there and does a fine job of helping to melt the bugs if'n ya leave it draped on the windshield for 5 or so minutes. Dry it with a micro fiber using an up and down motion versus a circular one. This seems to help make the inevitable scratches less annoying as they will be vertical scratches; horizontal ones seem to be much more noticeable when riding into the sun and oncoming headlights. Then finish with Novis or Plexux using the same wiping motions. YMMV!
