Default tail light stays on

A friend of mine has a 2006 street glide and he stopped over with a problem. The tail light wouldn't come on. I took the bulb out and cleaned the contacts and when I tried it again the bulb worked, but the brake light stayed on.I tried the bulb and connector on another bike and both are ok. I tried another bulb and connector from another bike and I have the same problem. Any one out there have any ideas? Appreciate any help.

Did he change out the break levers to new ones?

No, the only thing he did was change out the brake fluid a week earlier.

I ask only cause when I changed out my levers, they tell you to put apiece of cardboard between the lever and the housing and I found out why. Broke the little nub off the break light switch. I would check it anyway just in case.

I can check the fuse, but the bulb stays on all the time. If it was the fuse, the bulb wouldn't light.

Check the handlebar where the brake lever and switch housing align. They have to be aligned so the lever tab hits the piston.

when you broke off the nub of the brake light switch, did the brake lights stay on all the time?

Yes and the cruise would not work since it works in conjunction with the brake light switch
