Must do's??

If I decide to go with a new bike, is there any musts I should have the dealer do before I take delivery (other than giving it more air - I plan to ride it for a bit before doing a stage 1)?

Exhaust, Sert or PC III with the stage 1 Kit. That is my recommendation

Do your homework on good insurance first.

I would suggest you take the delivery as is! Then, spend the time figuring out what accessories you want to install. The dealer will always want you to add accessories, and add the costs to your invoice. Of course, if you know what accessories you like (grips, pegs, floorboard inserts, etc), have them do it before delivery. After owning three Harleys, I can tell you that it would not hurt you at all to wait and take your time upgrading. I also found that it's less expensive to get the accessories on Ebay instead of buying it at full retail from the dealer.

Good Luck,
Kahuna

You must get a full sleave tattoo

You must practice the "Just out of prison scowl"

You must not shave.

You must dye all of your clothes black.

You must hang a chrome chain from your belt loop to your trucker wallet (min. length 24").

You must tie a bandanna around your head.

You must get a minimum of 8 large bulky rings with at least 1 skull.

You must drink much beer to develop your abdomen.

You must wear a black leather vest, no T-shirt, or black T-shirt no leather vest.

You must learn to light a cigarette while doing 60 mph and smoke it.

You must learn how to play poker while running.

Being a biker is hard work and dedication. Not to be taken lightly. This takes a great deal of practice, and the dealer, he must take your money...

I would not rush into anything. Get comfortable with the bike, stay hooked up with this forum, read mags, and look at lots of other bikes. Then you can make better decisions as to what is right for you, and your scoot. Its easy for a salesman to sell you a Stage 1, but do you want true duals, slip ons, V&H, Hard Chrome, SE.....and....do you want SE air intake, Kuryakyn........and do you want PC III, SE Race Tuner, HD downloads. Once you get comfortable, you will be able to make the right decisions that you will be happy with. Oh, and make them at least throw in a T Shirt, those cheap B@st@rds.

You must get a full sleave tattoo - PASS!

You must practice the "Just out of prison scowl" - Got that down pat.

You must not shave. - I'm working my my Fu-Macho, does that count?

You must dye all of your clothes black. - Bought new black clothes

You must hang a chrome chain from your belt loop to your trucker wallet (min. length 24"). - DONE

You must tie a bandanna around your head. - I have plenty of those things, I wear a hat when not wearing my helmet.

You must get a minimum of 8 large bulky rings with at least 1 skull. - Crap! Need to work on that. I do have a skull on my chain though.

You must drink much beer to develop your abdomen. - ehhhh, I have the belly already.

You must wear a black leather vest, no T-shirt, or black T-shirt no leather vest. - Ok ditch the T-Shirt. Gotcha!

You must learn to light a cigarette while doing 60 mph and smoke it. - Cigar count?

You must learn how to play poker while running. - Ok, no sweat.

Being a biker is hard work and dedication. Not to be taken lightly. This takes a great deal of practice, and the dealer, he must take your money... - My dealer does that quite well. :D

If your dealer is like mine I'd upgrade the exhaust right away. I got a stage 1 kit and true duals put on before picking it up. Because it was done at the same time as my bike purchase they included it in my 2 yr. standard warranty. Not sure if that's common or not but because of the offer I figured I'd do it right away. Besides, I got to check out stock vs. upgrade in the shop before making my decision and after hearing the difference the stock exhaust was no longer an option for me.
