My 07 FXD was $9995, a year ago. My 07 Road Glide, with a tour pac, heated grips, stage 1, ext warranty, etx, in mint condition was $13,500.
I just sold my 02 Road King for $8k.
Not only is the market in the crapper, the newer bikes are far superior to the older one?
Even the 07 and 08s are outmoded.
I rode my buddies 09 SG today, definitely superior to my 07.
In years past, the older bikes were close, technology wise, to the new ones. No longer true.
An 05 or 06 has an 88" ci engine, a 5 speed, the old frame and suspension, and the smaller wheels, etc. A new one can be bought for a couple thou under MSRP. Why would anyone pay over $10-11k?
Not knocking them, just do the math. Its the same with trucks, cars, etc.

To me,you should think long about what kind of bike and the things you want on it.Then be prepared to keep it for several years and not be tempted to trade on the latest thing that comes out.It cost lots of money to sell or trade every year or two or three. And in the long run there just is not a whole lot of difference anyway.

I don't think hurting is the right word. Totally desperate would be more fitting, IMHO. I guess that old saying of "what goes around, comes around" pretty much applies here. After all these years of gouging the buyers with completely unreasonable and unjustifiably high prices, now they're having to give back a little. AND, they're havin' to cut prices on the best bikes to date too. I love it!!
Ride safe,
John

Is no Question that Harley is wanting to deal where I am anyway.. Brand New 08 EGS true the 09's were out but still new on the Floor .. 15,956.00 Out the Door .. with added 2 year warranty above and beyond the 2 year standard warranty and first 1K Service was free, was skeptical about that until had the service done and No Charge..

It won't surprise me if the new purchase price for an HD drops dramatically - probably not as dramatic as the Big 3, but it will drop just the same. Going to **** off those that recently bought '09,s. Wait and see what happens if you want an '09 - could be a very smart move.
Not sure if the price of an '09 bike will drop dramatically below MSRP until the 2010 lineup comes out, but I'd expect to see things like $1000 gift cards, extended warranties, etc thrown in as enticements to buy.

I see over and over that someone has "invested" huge bucks on add-ons and upgrades. The thing is, investments are supposed to have at least some chance of paying a dividend. Bling, hopping up the engine etc. just don't fall into that category. If you're not sure that you're gonna keep the bike for a long, LONG time, then all that chrome and engine work is just money down the drain and is actually a detriment to selling the bike.
I hear you, jpooch. I dumped a load into a 117" engine build and it hasn't added anything to the fair market value of the bike. I'm loving it though...
