Do you mean 96? The 95 is a built 88, as far as I know. The 96 is a little bit more power than an 88, stock for stock, but it might be the taller gearing that makes it seem torquier.

stock 88 '06 RG cannot keep up speed going uphill....down shifting....no real help...others with upgrades pulling away.

upgraded 88 to 95 '06 RG....ah, what do you want to do?

If you mean stock 88 vs stock 96...Ive had two of each (sort of)

03 88" EGC BONE stock

05 88" EGC Stage 1 with slipons

07 96 bumped to 103" stage 2 plus pipes/sert

09 96 with slipons plus Sert

Probably the 05 and 09 are the closest to a true comparison.

Overall, I do think the 96 has noticeably more grunt. Its no fire breathing monster, but neither of my 96s have felt nearly as weak my 88s did going up canyons etc. A few times on my 03 and 05 I just about felt like I could get off and walk faster going up some canyons. Never felt like that with either the 07 or 09.

Obviously, the 07 had the most pull, but my 09 does pretty darn well going 2-up in a canyon. FAR better than either of my 88" bikes did. Better passing power on the superslab as well.

I don't believe the 88" produces anymore horsepower than the 96". The 96" has a perceived increase in power due to an increase in torque. I own one of each and personally prefer the 88" engine as I like the gearing ratio's better. Haven't had a chance to ride a 09 96" touring bikes with the improved gear ratios yet. Maybe that would change my mind

Default 88/95

I did this @ 6000 miles in a stage 2 kit on a 2006 ultra. I found it to be well worth the money if you include a fuel management system with a good fuel map. Lots more torque and little MPG lost but much more fun to ride now. I don't have any trouble keeping up with anything under 110" even on lighter rides.

I'm now considering the SE 103" crank and rods that will fit the 95" kit pistons, just trying to save up some spending money.

It was hard to compare the differance for me because I did it over the winter where I hadn't riden it as a 88" to a 95" in 4 months. I let the dealer do it in the winter where I bought everything at 15% off including the labor time. Spent $2500 including SE mufflers, SE race tuner, dyno tuning and stage 2 kit with 203 cams. Even got the dealer to through in 4 hours labor at no charge.

I probably would have went with 211 cams and gear drive if I had it to do over especially since I'm considering adding stroke now.

Torque and hp on a dyno is not relevant to real world performance, as the bike is stationary. Here is a post from a previous thread concerning the same subject:

MCNews publishes performance reports on their test bikes. They haven't done a Street Glide, but the '09 Road Glide was in 12/08 issue. 1/4 mile time was 14.4 at 91.04 mph.

The '99 model, with the smaller TC88 was faster, at 13.88 and 92.37 mph.

The top speed on the '09 was faster, however, at 109 mph, compared to 105 for the '99 model.

832 lbs for the '09 vs 777 lbs for the '99.

Here are the actual dyno figures:

'99 TC88 62.7 Hp 73.5 Torque
"09 TC95 68.1 Hp 78.7 Torque

More power, but less fast, due to the new models increased weight.
