i bought the inexpensive verison from HD, $89 but it is chromed and not rediculously large but big enough that it looks solis and is chromed, imho a non chromed linkage looks like crap, we spend a ton money on chrome, its an easy install and it should not be overlooked, kind of like a nice finishing touch. Shame on HD for installing that POS linkage that come on the bike, friggin rubber bushings pressed onto a post is rediculous, and we should never have to spend a dime on one. But we all know what HD stands for... hundred dollars everytime we walk into a dealership.
Ive always worried about my linkage coming apart when im on the road and now with no job and not a lot of cash to spend this looks like a deal? Ill let you know as I ordered one today... I could have gone with stainless rod ends or the cheap rod ends but this is supposed to be all chrome? We shall see
I wonder if the stainless won't rust, just as fast as the plated. I see a lot of boats(freshwater) and it seems to me the stainless hardware rusts just as fast as cad plated.
I used some stainless steel screws on my trailer and even with waxing, they have started to rust a little...Am going to check the farm supply store for the joints, they may have them in stainless if not will try cad plated and heck maybe paint them flat black to match the inner primary...
I went with the stainless rod ends from McMaster-Carr, but my stock rod is so long that I can't use either jam nut. I guess they're not necessary since it is screwed into both rod ends so far that it can't back out of either one. I also had to go with a 1 /14" bolt on the front since I had to add a flat washer between the linkage and the rod end to keep it from binding and still have enough bolt to reach the nylon on the nylock nut.
I'm no looking for a stainless or chrome shift rod that is threaded further into the rod so I can use jam nuts.

Ok got mine from these guys today from California and all i gotta say is its very nice.. Chrome looks good. The heim joint chrome is very nice. We will see how it works but i for see no problem and for like 23.95 bucks delivered for all chrome im calling it a deal.... Dont expect it to be in any kind package but it came usps flate rate and wrapped in bubble wrap. Guess i got something to do tomorrow.. I may need to run to menards for chrome fasteners but ill check the hot rod drawer for stainless first... Ill have peace of mind now knowing it wont disassemble itself out somewhere or sometime where I have nothing to fix it with...
Not good quality stainless steel if it rusts.Have seen this with exhaust on cars if not good stuff it will rust with time. Sometimes it pays to hand over a little more cash for a quality product. One way to check is with a magnet stainless will not stick where if it is just a cheap coating over metal it will.
