Default High mileage Road Glide

I am looking at a 2005 Road Glide with the 1450cc engine. Would 39,000 miles be on the high side? The price is fair, but I am riding 17K+ per year and don't want a machine that is already half worn out. What concerns should be considered for this year model?

Everything you say is relevant however, you left off the most relevant.......price.

I've got 48k on my 04 Screamin Eagle Electra Glide and it still runs strong with no issues. I know of several people that are over 100k.....one at 140k.

Considering that you're riding 17k + a year now, that'll quickly jump up to about 22k a year on a bagger. You don't have to plan it, it just happens if you're a rider. A bike that is very comfortable to ride, handles very well and has storage space......it just happens. I found myself going grocery shopping when I first got the Ultra Classic.

Riding that many miles a year and if you plan to continue riding, I'd suggest considering a new bike with warranty and longevity.

I would keep looking. There are lots of bikes that are a few years old with only 5,000 miles on them.

I have a 2000 RG with around 40k on it. The previous owner put gear drive cams in it at around 20k. It runs fine with no problems. As long as you maintain the bike properly there's no reason you shouldn't be able to get at least 100k out of a twin cam. I paid $10k for the bike.

The 05 had some valve guide issues. Check the plugs to make sure they are not black.

Mine had to be replaced at 12K.

My '08 Road Glide has 27k miles on it, and I think it's finally getting through the "break in" period. This engine shows no signs of age and I don't consider 39k miles to be much at all, assuming that the previous owner maintained it properly.

I've got 78,000 on my 02 RG. I've put 45,000 of that on myself. I'll probably swap when it gets close to 100,000... In other words, next year.

there are a few around here with over 125K on them. Price is the consideration. Dealer i traded my 01 RK with 68K miles sold it for $9000.
