I put 13" shocks on my 07, WITH lowering blocks. Shocks were $75 on ebay (new takeoffs) lowering blocks were around $90. Sold the 12" shocks for $200, so ZERO cost to do the change.
Got the 1" of travel back, kept the lowered look. Rode HUGELY better.
I would do the same on my 09, but the new 09 shocks ride a lot better than the 07's did, so Im leaving it as is for now.

That one inch is one of the unique features of the Street Glide. Maybe you should be looking at the Ultra Standard.
Great idea. Then he can take the standard, change the wheels, gauges, seat, bag guards, bag latches, rear fender facia, footboards, turn signals, tank console, passing lamps, have the engine powdercoated black, add the chrome engine kit, add the sound system, and everything else.
Instead of just changing his StreetGlides shocks.

It is the rear only that is lowered, listed travel in the front of all 2008 HD Touring is 4.60 inches of travel, in the rear all but the SG list 3 inches of travel, SG 2 inches of travel.

hmmmmmmm I'm 340lbs and have an 07 FLHX. I have always bottom out the rear on the stock shocks. Bought Progressive, and bottom out on that, but not as frequent as the stock and much nicer ride.
If I do what you say, and during riding I bottom it out, will the 1" of additional shock travel touch the wires on top in the inside of the rear fender.
The RaceTech lower shocks were not a good ride for me. I took them off and bought 13 inch Ohlins from Howard ( motorcyclemetal.com). Now we are talking a HUGE difference in ride. Best investment I've ever made for my bikes. Sold my stock SG shocks last week to a forum member. Wanna buy a set of RaceTech Caddies . Will lower your 09.
