Only advice I can think of is to tighten your oil filter better next time. Refill it and ride.

Is the case completely empty? You might need to have the service dealer check it out.
If it is toast, certainly, the wear on the cylinder sleeves could have bored it out to 100+. and the cam, yeah, that got worn out to and would have to be replaced to match up with the bigger pistons. May as well check out the heads real good too, to make sure the loss of oil didn't leave any varnish in there. yeah, I think you have a case to have to rebuild your engine. 8-) |
+1, install NEW oil filter, TIGHT. Refil with oil. Wash bike and ride. If you would have hurt it, you would of known it.
|
I think that qualifies as the definition of a nightmare. Sorry to hear that happened to you.

Well I just got back from Daytona with the same filter on after 2600 miles ..not a drip anywhere...but today I guess it just worked itself loose...I have a Jagg oil cooler with the oil filter stepp off bracket found the filter in the ditch and O ring was gone Thought they are glued on filter????Anwway don't really know why it came off..Got 20K on bike never had this happen.....Thanks

Within the next 5K miles you'll know if you hurt it, but only if you ride on.

If the motor is ok thats a HELL OF A TESTIMONIAL FOR MOBIL 1 OIL. They should pay you for your story. Hope it works out for you.
|
If you have a evo you would be ok aslong as there is still oil in the tank..
Twin cam you could be in trouble because a twin cams oiling system goes to the oil filter then to the engine... a evo goes to engine then to filter before going back to tank... For sure get it checked out at dealer.. |
I would contact my liability insurance agent immediately and report a possible claim. Damage cause could be vandalism or suspected encontered road hazzard. Possible resultant damage cost-R&R New Motor. Advise them you are going to get it to a qualified HD tech to check it out.
Sure the guage didn't show an oil temp increase due to the lack of oil to register? It wouldn't take but a few seconds to pump her dry at speed, then, like someone said above, maybe residual Mobil 1 to the rescue~. |
