Default Removing the HD stage 1 download?

I have the PCIII on my '5 RK. When the dealer installed the stage 1 kit, he downloaded the HD map.

I would like to somehow remove the stage 1 download and revert the map back to stock.

Is this possible?

Is it something you would do for the sake of simply not having it in my bike?

After all, the HD download does have a bad reputation.

My thouight, although I don't have the HD down load, is that even though it has a bad reputation, leave it there, should the PC III fail and you have to remove it you are better off. You can remove the PC III and at least have a bike that will run better than the stock down load. My understanding is that The stage 1 down load is written right into the ECU so if you wanted it changed the dealer would be the one to do it.

I guess I'm referring to the many people here that suggest not using the HD download referring to it as a piece of crap. I don't have the knowledge to make that assumption on my own. From what I understand, it's too lean, and useless.

i agree. also, there ae PCIII maps that work in conjuntion with and improve upon the flash. the flash also raises tour rev limit.

The newer PCIII can raise the rev limit too. I would suggest if you had stock ECM to keep it and save yourself the $150 bucks and just use the PCIII. However you already have it....no biggie. Keep in mind....if you have a PCIII with a solid map, it doesn't matter what HD ECM you have...because the PCIII over rides it. Just make sure you map is made for whichever ECM you have.

In other words, If you have a PCIII, don't get it if you don't already have it. keep it, if you already got it.

Power Commander recommends the Stage 1 flash on their web site.

Think of it this way. You can get a canned download that is for having the flash (other then dyno tune, which you should do), now if for some reason the PC takes a dump out in the boondocks you can revert back to the stock ECM with the flash, which will not hurt your bike for the ride you need to do to get it fixed. Or you can ride that several hundred miles with a very lean bike, or trailer it...

Bob,

I agree. I have a Stage 1, with HD touring mufflers and the HD Flash. My bike runs great at elevations from sea level to 10,500 ft, and I usually get 50 mpg or so on the highway. Since it is a HD item, installed by the dealer I also have no warranty issues.

Regards,

Bill

Probably because, although it's much better than stock, it's still running a little lean. Also every bike is different, so the HD Flash will respond differently for each bike and setup (just take a look at the sheer number of PCIII custom maps out there, for the same setups!)

I have the Stage I flash, and the PCIII on top of it. No big deal here.
