Here's my theory on the problematic nature - I'm wondering for those who have had the oil dipstick temp gauge fail: Did you have that exhaust cross-over pipe right there next to the oil fill hole?

On my '05 EGC I had true duals so did not have that pipe right here ROASTING the LED gauge just a couple inches away.

I'm thinking the tremendous heat of that cross-over pipe is the culprit in ruining these gauges in very short order.

On the '09 bikes that pipe has been re-routed so I'm curious if those with either true duals on earlier models or those with the new '09 routing have ever had this gauge go bad prematurely?

Those who did have the gauge go bad: Did you have that pipe right there next to the gauge?

Let's see what results we get. It's just an idea but i'm thinking it could be a big factor. Cuz I never had any problem with that gauge on my '05 EGC (with true duals) and it seemed accurate.

I was told (by Harley salesman) that they are not accurate.

I wish they had a regular analog gauge for the newer bikes. I can't see paying that much for the digital one.

put one on my 06 EG last year. I agree it is over priced, but I got it anyhow. Seems to work ok so far.

I agree with Street glide medic. Spend the money on the fairing guage..not that difficult to install and you get a true reading..not to mention much safer to read when you're motoring down the road

Have had no problems with mine but other than for looks, I could take it or leave it.

Never considered checking the oil that much of a hassle and never been that concerned about the oil temperature. Oil pressure is more important, IMO. Mine is somewhat of a PIA about checking oil temp. When first stopped, like for gassing up, if I check it I get an Error message. If I take a longer break before checking, I don't feel that the temp is that important at that time. Mine was installed on the bike when I bought it and I did not get any instructions so I may not be doing it exactly right.
