Default High Mileage Conundrum

Recently a poster posed the question of how high is "high Mileage"? Many answered with comments about maintenance, type of riding, etc., but no specific figures.

To put a handle on this question, I would like to know what folks consider to be high or low mileage on an ANNUAL basis. On a touring machine, I would consider 5,000 miles per year to be low mileage, whereas on a softail model, that may be a high figure.

At any rate, what do the board members consider to be low to high ANNUAL miles for a full- fledged touring bike? Just curious.

I like your question which is a different question then the other thread. I see some jump at the bit to be a jackass if a thread gets started that looks like another one , but when you read it, its a different question. My guess would be about 7000 miles a year on a Touring bike in the States where you only ride April to November to be average, but I could be way off so I also would like to know.

What I consider I put on in a year is low. Yet, compared to people I know in the area I was told I ride it alot. I ride around 5k-7.5k a year, not too much long travel, due to work and family. This year is an execption though. Plan on putting some good miles with some long solo trips.

Northern Ontario here. I put on 20,000 kms every year. Around 13,000 miles.

It would be hard to nail down the high's and low's with any accuracy. Riding time can be very hard to come by for some. The amount of time available to ride every year will change as work and family dictate.
Here is my stab at it.

<5k - Garage Queen (Looks good on the Dealer Floor and Ebay)

5k - 9k Weekender (Limited ride time available. Guessing this is an average range)

9k - 15k These riders have more time than those below them. (Trade and Retail start suffering)

15k - 20k These riders are getting some good seat time and taking nice
trips through God's creation. (Dealer says that mileage is going to hurt on trade)

>20k Committed riders. Bike is the first choice when transportation is required. (Trade and Resale suck. But you should have really enjoyed your time in the saddle.)
