Question Sheepskin Seat cover recommendation

I am considering a sheepskin seat cover for longer trips. I would like to hear from those who have them or have used them and where to buy. I see there are bunch of companies out there when surfing Yahoo. Thanks

they do provide a little bit more softer comfort. during the hot summer sun. they keep the seat cool when getting back on.

I have an Alaska Leather cover as well. It's kinda ugly, but it sure makes a difference on those long hot days.

Another one with Alaska Leather here. I used to get monkey butt after about 300 miles with my stock seat, but with the sheepskin I can ride all day long without ever getting sore. My longest day so far was 750 mi / 11 hrs and no soreness at all!

I bought mine from a guy in Sturgis that used to set up at a gas station on the western exit off I-90. It's a full pelt and it's worked well for many years. The way it was explained to me is the wool hairs keep your butt dryer and it's a wet butt, sticking and stretching on the saddle that causes fatigue.

A couple of other thoughts.
  • It used to be mostly black, but now is mostly white. Sprayed on dye?
  • I keep the back part of the pelt in place with small bungee cords hooked into holes I made in the hide with a hole punch, the front is tied with a leather thong from under the seat.
  • I roll it up and stuff it into a pillow case when camping. Yeah I know, but it works. A fellow LD rider/camper Mark came up with this idea.
  • The guy who sold it to me said don't ever wash it. I finally broke down and washed it a few years ago, just to get all the damn road dust out. It's not as fluffy as it used to be, but seems to work as well as before.

I'm not sure the full pelt is right for me, but that sure looks comfy. Thanks for the responses.

do you feel the sheepskin is better than the throw on gel pads?
