Default Jims 131ci motors info ?

I have a 1998 Road King Classic ( im new to Harleys jap bike convert) which im installing a JIMS 131ci motor and Baker 6 speed tranny. Anyone have any long term info on these motors ? there is much info on 103ci up to 124ci motors but little above that . Carburation is to be S&S with a boarzilla 2 into 1 exhaust . Thanks Jake

Do a search, they have been having some dramas getting the grunt out of them that they should make.

Chain driven cams are the biggest reason I went with S&S.

If its a 1998 with a 131 then you might wanna invest in some PM brakes.

No they are made by HD using parts from a bunch of different suppliers including Lotzarunout who make the cranks and Xstrastretchy who supply the cam chains.

KKK the PM brakes are already on the list. I did notice with the heft of the Road King the stock units didnt appriciate riding aggresivly. As far as power . Jims claims 130 hp and 135 torque . Suprisingly most people are claiming 135 hp and 140 torque (with dyno sheets) you would think that the manufacturer would be fudging the numbers high .... I am also working a Buell XB12R soup to nuts through NRHS. AN 88ci kit with all the goodies forged everything and 630 /585 redshift cams ect. The Roadking is my long haul comfort ride 130/135 is fast enough for sport touring . I just dont know if JIMS Motor has any long term problems . These are my first Harleys( long time jap rider) . Again thanks for any info people may have .. Jake

The Jims motor should be fairly reliable. It is a big bore unit, with bigger cases that shouldnt give you any trouble at all. The only suspect area is the cam drives. The post 06 chain drive system is still too light on for me, and I am happy it is in a box in the shed and I have gear drive. I can get some pics of that primary cam chain, I have seen heavier gauge necklaces. If anything gives you trouble it will be that.

The issue with big inches is getting the gases in and out, this has been where people on this forum have been losing power.

Damn straight 130/135 is fast enough for anyone, I looked at putting an S&S in my old 1997 king but decided that it would be downright dangerous thanks to the wobble (yeah, I had a brace on it, still wobbled a little). I was so impressed when I rode the 09, I knew that this bike could handle 130+.

I reckon my 124 is making about 115rwhp (still running canned map) at the moment and it gets to 100mph so fast its crazy. Considering my 1997 was ready to throw in the towel on any corner at that speed I would be careful dude!!

Just for interests sake how did the Jims compare cost wise to an S&S 124 Evo?

KKK I looked at the S&S website and for the life of me couldnt get a grasp of thier products due to the small print format. The Jims cost 8500$including tax and shipping .... KKK also I thought it was my imagination (still might be lol) my 98 king doesnt seem all that stable over 80MPH . I was thinking I just am not used to 16 inch rims with wide bars (again im used to japanese sport bikes ) . You have had the same thoughts on your 97 as far as stability ? thanks Jake
