1000 Mile Service Costs

For those wanting to change to synthetic at the 1,000 mile first service, there is a school of thought that your engine is not fully broken in at that point, and it is a good idea to run regular oil at least to the 5,000 mile service if you wish your engine to develop the most power and run smoothest.
This will save you enough on oil to at least give you a couple tanks of fuel : >)

That's a myth. Engines break in fine with synthetic. Numerous manufacturers fill their brand new engines with synthetic including Mercedes, Porsche and BMW. CVO's are also shipped with syn. There are lots of myths about synthetic. They're not all that they are cracked up to be by the advertisements which everyone seems to buy hook-line-and-sinker.

Dropped the new 2013 Limited off to my Indy on Monday at 9 am, he called me around 3 said it was done. 235 out the door with Amsoil in all three holes. My reason to let him do it was we are headed to Daytona next week and with me working for the last three weekends time was not in my favor.

Many do it that way. I have always done mine. I feel that the dealer can not do better than how I care for the bike, but they could do worse.
I keep my material cost under $40 as I use 20-50 Valvoline MC spec'd oil for $3.98/qt and Fram filter for about $5.
Dealers are around $300 on the three hole bikes.

My stealer quoted $375... AND said I HAD to have them do it or my warranty would be void.
I asked him if he ever heard of Magnuson Moss, he stared at me like I was growing a third ear.
I'll be doing my own, as always.
And a side note, they NEVER grease the steering head.. which is a good thing, because you can't grease the steering head on a '14.

...............There is about a 30 item check list they go thru. It's more than an oil change. The first 1000 mile service is an important one IMO. Making sure everything is adjusted properly and engine running like it should. To me, 250.00 is a small price to pay to make sure your 20K+ investment is safe and running like it should.
And after that.........I do what needs doing!
