Andrews 54H cams. Opinions?
I am/was interested in this cam. My enthusiasm was lessened when I read this was a bad cam for true duals and a 6 seed tranny as the power comes on to late to take good advantage of 6th. Trying to remember this was written by some one I don't know, who might be every bit as dumb as me, I thought I would see if I could get some discussion of this cam started. I'm wanting to do a 103 upgrade on my 08 SG (warranty runs out soon). Like most Harleys my bike is a bit of dog after 70 MPH or there abouts. I want to keep 6th gear useful and I want to keep my good MPG. Just like to have 5th and 6th pull better. Opinions?

your 08 sg is a dog after 70? something must be wrong with it. mine really wakes up from there on up. well over a hundred, but it's quick, and all i've done with mine is the screamin eagle air cleaner, stage one download so it revs past 5500, rinehart slip ons, and the power commander 5. i'd be looking other places to get your dog to bark than cams at this point. i'd be really pissed if mine was lazy from seventy on up.

the tw21 and tw 26 are supposed to be great camsets. as they claim the 255 harley cams. somehow people are more interested in peak hp than low rpm torque, and those who are in the know realize that we really don't ride, or tour beyond 3500 usually. that's 90 mph. my 08 sg will be out of warranty soon too, and i'm tickled cause i'll be able to do stuff that would otherwise void the hell out of it.

Nothing wrong with my bike emwolb. 18,000 reliable miles. This is my 2nd HD bagger and it is the same as my 1st one which also lacked performance at higher speeds. That is till I did the BB 95" and installed the Andrews 26G cams you spoke of. Maybe I should rephrase and say the "ROLL ON" power is lacking after 70 mph in 5th or 6th. I have ridden several other HD's, 6 or 7 I guess and they are all the same. If you have the power you say then you are the exception. Not the rule. I will say that my bike, if wound out thru the gears at WOT to redline or near it, has adequate acceleration, even spunky. Problem is I don't run around at redline very much. It's the roll on performance that's lacking. Thanks, for the reply.

What compression did you set your motor up at and who's 103 did you use? Just wondering about that +4 gear being too much for my heat and 91 octane if I set up around 9.8:1 or so.

08 Road Glide 103 with 54H Cams
HI Gary, I have an 08 Road Glide that I upgraded to a 103 with 54H cams about 3500 miles ago. I got the parts from Todd at Revolution Cycle in Iowa. $725.00 Delivered for 54H Cams, Keith Black Pistons mated to 103 barrels. I am running a Race Tuner, but have not done any head work yet. Not sure I will the bike really rips as it is now. The power bank comes on around 2800-3000 and pulls strong up to 5800-6000. I have the rev limiter set at 6200, but the bike seems like it is maxxed out at about the 6K mark. I am extremely pleased with this set up and if I am in 6th gear at 75mph, I don't really need to kick it down to get around someone, just turn on the juice and away we go!!. BTW, Todd's number is 641-507-9250. Good Luck, Gary
