Well I just got home from my first trip on the bike. I left PA went south to Tn got on rt40 went west to NM up to Cortez CO then over the rockies to Denver then rt70 home.
It was a great trip and I got a taste, or should I say fill, of just about all the weather you could hit. I had Sunny weather, got blown around on the TX panhandle, drove through hail twice, in the middle of lightning several times with no where to go but through it, and spent 6hrs one day driving through heavy rain. Oh and I was in snow at the top of Mt Evans in CO. By the way has anyone else done Mt Evans? That scared the crap out of me. I didn't think I had a problem with heights but 14,000 ft on a road with no shoulder and no guardrails is a good test. Anyway my 06 Road King ran great all the way. Here are a couple of pics. |
5K miles on a roadking! My hat is off to you. Don't think I could do that distance without the creature comforts of my ultra. Sounds like a great trip. Congrats on everything going well.
Great pictures. That first one looks like you have a 30 foot ladder coming out of your bag. Sounds like a great trip. |

I live here in Colorado and have done Mount Evans quite a few times, you get used to it, and the views can not be beat. Looks like you had a great time except for the weather.

Man that looks like a great trip. How long did you take to do this? What did you do for oil changes or any maintenance?
|
Sounds like an awesome trip and nice pics. What is that luggage bag you have in the first pic?

I was gone 16 days but I was on the road only 9 days. I stayed with family in Cortez and Denver a few days in each place. While in Cortez I did a day trip to Monument Valley and in Denver a day trip to Mt Evans.
I had the oil changed before I left. When I got to Denver the bike had about 12,000 on it so I had the 10,000 mile service done out there at Freedom HD. Seemed to be good guys......not cheap though $389. The bag was from www.Bestemusa.com it was only $49 and for the most part worked well. The day I was in the rain for 6hrs stuff in the bag got a little bit wet even with the rain cover on. Also one of the straps broke off. However I just called them yesterday and they are sending me a new one for free and a shipping tag to send the other one back. It is not the quality of a Nelson Riggs or a Tbag but I was on a budget and it got me there and back. Except for the heavy rain issue I think it is a good cheap bag. I wrote about it here. https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...hat-i-got.html The best thing I bought from them was their saddle bag liners. $29 for a pair and they worked great. I also need to get a better rain gear setup. I have a Harley textile jacket that is suppose to be rain proof(not in the heavy stuff) and instead of rain pants I need rain bib overalls. With just the pants the driving rain makes it way up into the waistline. |
Looks like fun to me, one of these days.................
