removing the gas tank is not needed. you need the right allen key to get at the bolts that hold on a bracket that needs removing behind the ac. with the tank off it would be easier but i did it with the tank on and a little patience....

Tried it without removing tank and was a pain unless your allen wrenched are just the right size. However, you can just remove the four tank bolts and prop something under the tank to make it much easier to get at the bracket. I used an empty water bottle. Saw someone use a piece of 2x4. Takes a minute. No need to worry about fuel lines, there's plenty of room. Very easy do it yourself upgrade.

You don't need to remove tank. You just need L-shape allen key, 3/16" if I remember right...

Took me about 8 minutes to remove both allen screws with a 3/16" allen wrench, without touching the tank. Take your time and unscrew each one and you'll see it can be done without rushing in less then 10 minutes. I reinstalled those bolts too just to keep them. Stage 1 is not too difficult to do by yourself. The hardest part for me was tucking the excess wiring harless into the frame of the bike.

Good idea to put a couple of masking or painters tape along the bottom of the tank . Those allens can slip if not on right. Easire to take off than put on. Been there and done that a couple of times. Painters tape is your friend.
