Normally I would say that if you can't find the engine oil drain plug, you shouldn't be trying to change your oil. However, allowing for the pathetic HD owners manual, I think I deserve another change. In the manual it clearly states the drain plug is on the left front side of the engine. Then, the picture clearly points to the right side rear of the engine. I found on the right side, what looks to be a drain plug that is horizonal or parellel to the ground. Is this it? My bike is an 02 RKC. A friend tells me it is an obvious drin plug on the left side of engine. His bike is an 05. Can somebody help me out here. That is an 02 RKC.

On the Trans pan, there are 3 screws that can be removed.......

Left of bike facing FORWARD is the motor oil drain....

Right side of bike facing DOWN is the trans drain....

Do NOT touch the Center plug....

FWIW, forget the owners manual, get a Svc Manual.....

I'm totally embarrassed that I have to say, I STILL CAN"T FIND THE SOB! I'm 57 years old. I thought I knew my left from my right. Now I wonder. When I am sitting on the seat of my bike, facing the direction I want to travel, I believe my LEFT arm and the LEFT side of my bike are the same. To be even more clear, I think the heel/toe shifter is on the left side of my bike. I looked for a plug that faces forward shovelhead, NOT straight down. I can't see it. Found on the forum where someone posted pics of the drain plug on the RK. Guess what? It want pull up. I must now consider the possiblity that there is a motorcycle god that lives in my garage and for some reason, he hates my guts.

You are looking at the TRANSMISSION PAN, correct???????

Behind the motor, under the Starter, between the frame rails......

Yes, you drain the Engine Oil from the TRANS pan......

Same area where the engine DIPSTICK is.....

Just lower....

[sm=WTFsgign.gif] Turn the bike upside down and just pull the dipstick, way easier!

I would like to throw my 2 cents in here and say I had the same problem, but I bought the "Fix My Hog" DVD for touring HD's and really learned a lot. They show how to perform normal maintenance and for someone with little knowledge of bikes (like myself) it was really informative. You might want to check it out.
