Default grease fitting in inner primary

I drilled and tapped the inner primary case with a 1/4 28 thread tap and installed a grease fitting when i first purchased my 03 road king. To date the shaft is as tight as it was new.

I'm leary of trying that with the primary on the bike, especially with a chrome primary.

The bike only has 22,000 miles on it, and the shifters are rattling around like crazy.
The splines aren't loose, it's the shaft that's moving around in the hole through the primary. I greased it once, and it does tighten it up, but not for long.
Has anyone had this problem?
You might give this a try. Remove the shifter shaft, clean the shaft and and bushings in the primary. Use heavy bearing grease and reassemble the pieces. The notches in the the shaft are large enough that you can have someone squeeze the shifter and lever together while you tighten the bolts. I had the same problem with the shifter rattling after removing the heel shifter and it worked for me.

You can just put a valve spring on it.

Dont have a picture but a basic tool would be a shaft with a dia. turned to fit the ID of the bushing and another a little smaller than the ID of the case that the bushing is pressed into.
The end of the shaft will slide into the bushing then stop at the larger dia. Then take your hammer and drive them out.
Installation would be to place a new bushing on the tool, drive it to the end then repeat for the other.

I replaced the bushings in my 06 ultra it is about a 20 min job. the id of the bore for the
shaft is dam close to 11/16 th the bushing will drive out form the outside of the primary
case and just fall out the other side. there are two of them so drive the iner one in
untill it is flush with the outside of the case then drive the outer one in untillit is flush
then put your shifter back in. I put a grease fitting in mine so that wont happen agian

Thanks everyone for the tips. I'll tackle it this winter, which by the looks of the flakes falling outside, may be sooner than later.

So I changed the bushings, literally a ten minute job. The shifters are much tighter, but there is still some wiggle.
If I wanna get really picky, I'll change the shaft.
Does anyone know the part # for the shaft? Price?
Maybe it's cheap..........probably not though, Eh?
