I would start by checking if the lever on the engine side of the primary is pushed against the primary case as far as it goes and is tightened properly.

If not, loosen the outer levers and slide out, get the inner lever set and tightened, then push the outer levers into place and tighten.

I can do that, but I'm not thinking that will help.

I had the same problem with the shifter rattling after removing the heel shifter and it worked for me.
I also do this on my bike. I also used thin "O" rings to keep the grease in. Stays nice and tight for a long time.

I think the company "Pingle" (the electronic shifting guys) makes a shifter shaft with a grease fitting made on the end. Just another possible fix, still have to replace the worn bushings. Don't remember the price but it can't be higher than a HD part.

If I wanna get really picky, I'll change the shaft.

I'm thinking about trying the E-Z Spacer.

Looks like this will take care of the problem and should keep it from coming back. Anyone have any experience with this?

It can, and it is, but a shaft from HD for $20 and a friend with a machinists license, might be the answer.
