As far a s maintenance issues.......NOBODY has had to have their valves adjusted on a HD since.....1947!!!
Never had anybody try to dress up their Harley to look like a Honda, Yammy or a Suzuki!!
My buddy wanted a Street Glyde but didnt have the cash. He wouldnt settle for a Harley more in his price range and wound up with a Honda Fury. The Fury is a nice ride but I've heard him give the ( I know its not Harley) speech to many times. If its a Harley that you want get one. Make yourself happy, we all deserve it
Hey. I am considering my first Harley - the Roadking. I am 40 and just started riding 3 summers ago. This spring I purchased a Yamaha Roadstar 1700cc - it is beautiful and a nice ride - I get many compliments on the looks and I have enjoyed it all summer. BUT - I have ALWAYS wanted a Roadking and just don't feel completely satisfied not owning one. My problem is this - even though I can afford the Roadking, I get a feeling of "pre" buyers remorse when I think about the 5 to 10,000 bucks more to buy it (depending on new or used) and the cost of ownership with the maintenance schedule. Can you help to justify the bike to me - specifically, has anyone gone from a nice metric to the Roadking? Any regrets? Can you compare the bikes to me?I can't imagine not being happy with it but I first want to hear similar stories and your opinions.Thanks.
Just the sound alone is worth 5-10K! If you have always wanted a Harley buy it!! I have been there!! Took 49 years to get one! I'm on my second!! Rode metrics from 9 to 49!! No complaints! Just was not a Harley!! If we have to talk you into it!! Keep your Metric!!!!
I think it all depends on what owning a HD means to you. I owned 2 metrics. Last one was a Kawasaki Nomad but my dream was to own a Harley. I knew I would have to pay the price........and when I say the price, I don't mean just the money I would have to lay down. The price to pay was having a bike that would shake, ratle and maybe have some parts coming loose once in a while and also, having a bike with some eat issues. Nothing of this would have stopped me from buying a HD. I will never go back to a metric. Thats how bad I wanted a Harley. It is my second one, both Ultra Classic and never regretted my investment and when I say investment, I'm not talking money wise but what it brought to me personnaly. One thing's for sure, don't hope finding a metric kinda bike with the name Harley Davidson on it cause you wont find it. Go with what you feel, I think it's your best bet but what a feeling when your parked between a GW or a BMW and people keep asking: ''can I take a picture of YOUR bike'' kinda makes you feel proud.
Owned a Kawasaki years ago. Great bike. When I returned to the MC world, went tight to HD and bought a RKC. For the money, it is the best value in my opinion. Unless you really want to spend money, then you will start looking at the Ultra's. The RK is a versatile bike. You will not be disappointed. Go to a bike night and talk to the owners for their opinions.
Here in Florida, HD is offering some nice pricing initiatives to bolster new bike sales.
Good luck. Hope to see pics of your bike in the near future.
I just bought a 2010 Road king and I just love it. Screaming Eagle Fatshotz, Stage 1 Air kit, Race Tuner, Hog tunes mounted speakers and I have a Harley custom seat coming in about a week, It'll be a low profile seat with matching flame. It will look awesome! I'll have more pics once I get it. I traded my Honda VTX 1300R. It does not compare to this bike. I went and test rode a Road King and Street Glide and the rest was history. Harley will grab your soul!!
I own a V-rod since two years and an FLHTC since two weeks.
Before those two I owned 10 other bikes, all metrics, Yamaha, Honda, Suziki, Kawasaki and BMW . All were great and gave me my money's worth and some. All were resold at good price with normal depreciation.
I resisted the urge to buy HD because of the herds of HD on the road. I just did not want to be part of an herd.
I am very happy with both the V-rod and the FLHTC and plan to keep them for many years.
