Default Extended warranty?

Just curious about this one, I bet I can´t get one here in Finland but if someone who has this would kindly explain to me what this is, just getting your bikes warranty to cover more than the usual 2yrs, right? For how long can you get that extended one to cover? How much does that usually cost, for example in my case for a 06SG(of course depends what kind of deal you are able to make w/dealer, but...)and when do you have to get it, before that original warranty expires?

I took the extended warranty when I purchased my 2008 Street Glide at which time it was about $500.00 cheaper then if I would have waited until the original 2yrs was up the cost was around $1,500.00 and covers everything including the rims etc. [/align]

I got it on my first bike and skipped it on the second. I didn't like an extended warranty that overlaid and run concurrently with the underlying warranty.

That is BS. That the warranties run concurrently. They make you thhink that you are getting a five year waaranty when you are really only getting a three.
Just call it a 3 year warranty!!!!

There are a couple of companies that dealers sell for, one being harley. Like said a 5 year only gives you 3 beyond your factory two. The cost is on average about 1000.00 it costs you 50.00 deductable if you use it. It does not cover everything, you can add a touring coverage that covers radio and fairing and bags as well as some other things this is another 225.00 or so. I have bought it but the last one was a 7 year, 1400.00 in 2002.
First time I used it was this year repairs cost me 784.00. I paid two 50.00 deductables so I recouped 684.00 so far but only have 14 months left. If bike has no more issues then I would have been better off not buying it. It would of been of no use if I had just bought the 5 year plan as it would have run out before I needed it. I dont think anyone should buy one unless they ride more than 10k miles a year.

Warranties are always a crap shoot - they are great when you need them but suck if you don't use them. I bought the warranty with my 07 - hoping that I won't have to use it but with the technology going the way it is - the motor company making harder for you to do your own work - complicated emissions - I thought it best for me to buy. Now if I sell it in 2 or 3 years - wouldn't a waaranty make the buyer feel a little better?

I have until September 2008 to decide if I want to extend my warranty for five more years at an approximatecost of $1,500.00 on my 2007 RK Custom.

I'm still sittin' on the fence with this issue myself.

I have one and like the piece of mind that it gives. I have never been a big fan of extended warranties in general but I know several people who have used them and had them pay off. Like texan says though its a crap shoot.

It's like buying insurance. Bought it once on a car, and broke even on the deal. It's like betting against the house in vegas.

btw, how does adding pipes etc effect your warranty/extended warranty?
