May not be the right forum, but since I have to replace the tank anyway, does anyone know if the new 6 gallon tank will fit on a 2007 Road King Classic? I would certainly like the extra gallon.
My 08' has the same frame with the 6 gal tank. That's a good question and right now I don't see why it wouldn't fit. I wonder if the seat will be a problem.
Seat will also have to be changed. It mounts differently on the 08 then it did on the 07. The slot and tang in the front are reveresed with the larger tank.

well, you're half right. The front half of the 08 frame matches the 09 models, and the rear half matches the 07 bikes. The area under the back of the tank is sunk in for the additional wires to fit under it, I have successfully swapped tanks by spreading the wires out, and covering with wide electrical tape. Spacers will need to be used on the front mount to make up the width difference, and the rear will need to be drilled and tapped where the tank sits. Then an 08-newer seat will fit. Then, the float level will read different, because the electronics changed between 07 and 08. Get the newer gauges, you should be fine, that's what I did. The wiring from the 07 plugs into the 08 if you have the 08 tank harness.
I am not sure if the swap is necessary. It has been noted on a lot of discussions on the capacity of the 6 gallon tank. I have a 2011 and after the low fuel level light comes on, I can get maybe 4 to 4.5 gallons i the tank. This has been noted by a lot of people.

Probably due to an inaccurate fuel float rather than tank capacity...
One reason I set a trip guage at every fill up.
