It happens on most. While it's technically true that the oil is in a 'remote' area, it does flow to the engine eventually causing pressure buildup. Too much oil (i.e. full) will cause pressure build-up into the rocker boxes. The rocker boxes vent to the breather. If the breather is cleaned, or re-charged before the oil change, then oil 'misting' is minimized. Scares the crap out of you the first time though.

Doherty makes a misting kit that will elminate this problem. There's probably others that do it too.

My buddy had the same problem. Ended up being the o-ring gasket between the backing plate of the air cleaner and the cylinders. If it is not sealed correctly, you will experience light blow-by oil mist on the right side. It will mist on your pipes just like you described. Do you have an aftermarket air kit?

LOL, don't think they need the oil from my bike, they have enough in the desert and offshore. Still, maybe I should wrap my bike in pork, that might keep them away. A true HOG.

Did the service include lubing the steering head? Maybe over fill in steering head. When it gets hot & it runs down forks, it looks like it is coming from engine. Happened to me. Freaked me out at first. H.D. dealer using cheap lube. They make summer and winter lube.Ask for it next time.
