Yeh its an old thread but what the heck ,here goe's anyway!

This could be part of his problem if it turns out fuel calibration isnt too lean causing motor to run hotter then it normally did.

There are oil returns in the heads that are supposedly too small per HD's srv'c bulletin that could cause additonal oil to stay topside getting overheated in heads thus increasing oil & engine temp,see below for details:
