Default Engine crash bars and rear saddlebag crash bars - what happens if you drop the bike?

Does anyone know if they will totally prevent damage to a Streetglide in the event it is dropped from a standstill?? I'm thinking if they don't what's the point?

Depends. If it is a slow drop, yes, they work. If it is fast drop on uneven pavement they don't.
Had it happen a couple months ago when going slow through a parking lot and my wife made the mistake of turning around to look. The weight shift took me by surprise and I didn't even have time to try to catch it.
End results were faring damage, saddle bag latch, passenger floor board chrome cover, and of course scrapes on the engine guard. Not to mention the embarrasment of dropping it in front of a dozen or so spectators.
Of couse it would have been much worse without the guards. And on the good side, I had some custom paint done along with the repair of the fairing.
