Default Decided to black out my pipes

Well, since funds are tight after Christmas, I got a $25 gift card to Home Depot, so I decided to take matters into my own hands and paint my heat shields and mufflers. I sanded everything down with 400 grit paper and then primed them with Rustoleum Auto primer with 5 coats. Let it dry and then applied 5 coats of Hi temp (1200 degrees) flat black Rustoleum. It came out great IMO and looks really good too. Just wanted to post some pics.

looks great but have you rode it yet? I would think the Primer under coat would Just flake off. I had the same thing happen when I painted a set of black headers with silver 1500° header paint

any ways, I did the same w/o primer to my old fat bob , worked fine only place that wore off was were my shoe hit the pipe when using Mid pegs.

I have never seen a Fatbob with forward controls and mid pegs. That is different. That must be what the random bolt holes are for below the pipes. I wondered about that.

I took those pictures tonight after a ride, I've probably put 200-250 miles on the bike since I painted the pipes and as you can see in the pictures, they look just fine.

Hope it works out for you. I did mine last year. Sanded the chrome with 220 grit, cleaned off all dust and oils from my hands with lacquer thinner and let air dry for an hour. Sprayed on 4-5 coats of 1200 deg paint and followed the directions regarding the time between coats. Looked great for a few weeks and then it started flaking off. I washed the bike and with the force of the water (not even a power washer) I was able to remove alot of the paint.
