Default 7 yr old chrome custom wheels peeling

My build is starting to show it's age. The chrome on my front wheels is starting to chip and peel. The wheel style is OK, not my first choice but they still look good with the dual matching chrome rotors. They'll be fine for this year. Has anyone else had this happen ? If I change the wheels and rotors it's going to add up quickly.

I was considering re-chroming them until I read a thread on the step by step powder coating process and it looks interesting. Anyone here tried it ? I don't like the idea of tossing the old wheels and rotors, I doubt I could get much selling them used and chipped and peeling. At this point, I'm looking for for ideas or suggestions.

If you can roll with color that you like, I'd seriously consider powder coating. I think I saw the same process thread about powder coating and it really got me thinking as well. My wheels are still perfect after 3+ years, but I'm thinking when I go "makeover" it's going to include a whole bunch of powder coating. FWIW, I saw a brand new Road Glide today at my local dealer that had pimped it out with Black powder coat, and it was drop dead gorgeous. It's the first shark nose that I've really thought, "Man, I could ride that pig".....

Can't speak to re-chroming, but I i'll say this though......Ive had a ton of stuff powdercoated black over the last 7 years and the parts all look great. Properly prepped and applied, the powder will last a loooonnnnnggggg time.

Are your wheels steel or aluminum? I know if they are steel they can be stripped, rechromed and be like new. But I am thinking they may be aluminum and I don't know if they can be stripped or not.

If you really like the style and chrome then I would start searching chrome platers and find out what they can do.

I am also thinking they are going to need some prep to remove the peeling chrome before they are powder coated if you decide to got that route.
