Would be sweet if they did. They seem to run around $40 and look good. Anyone tried one yet??

I like my GPS. All info I may need is right in front of me. MHP, Speed, clock, heading, arrival time to destination, and how to get there. Shall I continue?

Funny, I was going to post the same thing. My wife just picked up the new 3Gs yesterday and the compass feature is pretty cool.

Personally, I use the compass on my Garmin Zumo 660.

Getting lost is half the fun, getting un-lost the the other half.

Gonna have to call them some time and ask if they have any feedback. I'm all over the GPS and what not, but I don't keep it hooked up a lot. Sometimes it's just nice to know what direction I'm heading. And if I could replace that silly temp gauge with something with an actual function, that'd be pretty swell...

If I find anything out, I'll be sure to post.

(SEVERAL MOMENTS PASS)

Just shot an e-mail to the Ritchie guys. We'll see what they say.

Ditto the last message. Have a GPS but dont always want it on. Will be most interested to say what Ritchie say. Apart from anything else i would like to get rid of the HD joke of a compass that just winds me up when I look at it because i know that it will tell me I am going in a direction I know i am not

UPDATE: Just had an e-exchange with the VP of marketing at Ritchie.

A "Test" unit is on the way for installation, testing and review.

Could be weeks before any of that happens - But I'll all over it ASAFP.

ANOTHER UPDATE:

Finally, a day worth being outside working on the bike (one of those days where it was okay to be working on it, but still crap for riding it).

Nearly started pulling the fairing when I figured I should at least find out if I can hold it near the fairing. I did. It freaked out. Front, back, even near the dead center over the radio.

So long story short - No-go on a typical magnetic compass in the fairing.

Yep, just too much ferrous metal, magnets, electrical wiring, etc. in the fairing to have a dependable compass reading-- if you took the time to swing the compass, the deviation card would be a real mess. I'm another advocate of the Zumo 550 compass, if it's on the bike. It's spot-on.

The free compass App in my Motorola Droid is pretty cool, but is impractical on the bike. Mostly, I just use the sun's position & rough it. (Yeah, we actually do get to see the sun, up here!)
