Default Road Tech XM Radio

Is anyone out there using the handlebar mounted Road Tech XM Radio? I have the antena wire routed per the instructions,it is only about 2ft long.It runs from the radio down the handlebars and back up to the radio again where the antena perch is mounted on the back of the radio. The reception SUCKS. If keeps fading in and out and sometimes even reads no signal. Can ANYONE offer some advice or your experience with the XM system? Maybe I need to move the antena to the fairing or maybe Road Tech makes a better antena?
