Say no to Headlight Trim Ring Crack
#111
At first I tried as they say loosening the screw on the stock and fitting it over. F that. Who's MickyMouse idea was that??? It don't work or look right.
Took the stock off.
Added foam strip around the inside of the new (just like the fog light trim rings have).
Put it on and tightened the screw. Tightened up and closed the gap completely. Done

I am using the visor trim ring on my headlight, but I modified the headlight bezel so I don't have to have the OEM trim installed inside of it.
Harley wants you to install the OEM trim ring underneath the new trim ring. I find this to be a crappy way to do it. However, the new trim ring is too loose without it. Foam didn't work for me as I was still able to pull the ring off with my hands even though it was fully tightened.
So, what I did was install a series of small screws around the headlight bezel. With a small nut on each side, I can "extend" the screws out as much as needed. These screws fit inside the lip of the new trim ring, locking it onto the bezel. Another benefit of this modification is that the new trim ring installs cleanly with absolutely no gap at the bottom.

This is a relatively easy fix. Dump the screw and nut that comes with bezel. Go to your local hardware and get a larger stainless steel machine screw with a bigger head and matching nut that is slightly longer than the original screw/nut that will still fit through the opening.
With the larger screw and nut it's actually very easy to draw the gap closed to a nice fit and finish. The solution will cost less than buck and look like it came from the factory!

I decided to try one of these and still the same problem. Some good ideas on getting rid of the gap at the meeting point in the visor but still nothing gets rid of the gap between the headlight and new visor. The only thing I have seen is some have changed headlights. It appears that if the headlight has a flat face and not curved you could eliminate that gap. Otherwise it's mickey mouse something to eliminate the gap.
Very **** poor design and should have been a direct replacement of the original trim ring. Idiots! As usual the engineer doesn't work on them in the field.

Great Pics and Idea, wish I had had this when I tried a dozen times to put the POS on mine, but alas, I got smart, took it back and bought a Kuryakyn...WORKED perfectly out of the box, better quality and a nice retro look also got the LED ring with it to add some flavor. Muuuuch happier. and NO I don't know why Harley even sells the thing, the guy at the dealership stated that this was the 4th one that week he was returning...duh.

trim ring
Hey
I can get the gap to close on top side but the bottom still has a 3/16" gap..It is like the original ring is a hair to large for the new trim ring to close all the way around it..Harley should do a better job with upgrading their accessories when they change something on the bike.there is alot of accessories you have to modify to get it to fit right..for what they charge you should not have to fight it..they must not read these forums or just don't care.we keep buying the junk.

Trim Ring
I got rid of the gap between the ring and headlight by putting a 1/4" gasket between the fairing and headlight base..this brings the whole headlight out a 1\4" off the fairing. just what you need on a 2012 SG.this allows the ring to go a 1\4" deeper and hit flush on the light.looks so much better..
