Solid chrome wheel to the rear?

Hey there,

Your thoughts on a solid chrome wheel to the rear and a Renegade costume (Yukon, whistler, Cinci, etc) to the front on a 2010 Street Glide.

My thoughts are: You can't see much of the wheel on the rear, and what you can see, I think a solid piece will look much nicer. And why spend $$$$ on the rear when can't see much of it on a bagger anyway.

Iron Aces 03-24-2010 08:34 AM

I know several people who have done that and it looks just fine. As you mentioned, you can't really see the rear wheel so why spend the money...unless you are planning on entering it into bike shows.

BTW, what Renegade wheel did you get for the front?

Lindsey :0)

Someone else asked this question just a few days ago and I voted for doing a solid wheel for cost and easier cleaning. I was the odd man out because everyone else said to get the matching wheel...

I had that set up on my 06 StreetGlide, and worked great, going to do the same to my 09 RoadKing!

ICIBUY 03-24-2010 09:09 AM

I can tell you from 1st hand expierence that it would be easier to clean a solid wheel on the rear! I think the solid rear looks good on my buddy's bagger. I like my wheels to match but I do enter into a couple shows a year. I say go for it!

Pork-Chop 03-24-2010 09:11 AM

why do people say you can't really see it? BS!! I see it and it looks like chit (to me) my .02c

I say do it right if you can afford it, if not then do it I guess, but don't be fooled you can't see it.
:icon_slap2:

this bike has ext bags AND its slammed.... can you see it?

Wow. That thing is so ugly, it's hurting my feelings.

riiiiiiight.... btw I see your stock rear wheel that does not match the front :icon_lol:

Garemlin 03-24-2010 09:23 AM

When I finally do wheels I will prolly go for either a solid rear or a chromed Fat Boy wheel with the rivets around the outside edge. As long as there is a little bling showing under the bags I am fine.

CBNDSDADDY 03-24-2010 10:20 AM

I haven't got the front yet, but thinking of getting the Renegade Cinci.

CBNDSDADDY 03-24-2010 10:28 AM

Thanks for the feedback.

hawkeye85 03-24-2010 06:09 PM

been thinking the same. dealer has a chromed 28 spoke 16" off a 2009 for 375 then just do a 21 up front

FFeric 03-24-2010 06:15 PM

You can see the rear wheel even with the bags. I did both. If you cant afford both, the solid chrome rear wheel would work. How much would you be spending on a chrome rear wheel?

Solid Rear wheel

I have been running a Chrome Solid Fatboy rim on the back of my SG. I guess I am one of the ones that believe you can't see much of it at all so why spend another 500.00 plus dollars over and above the solid Harley wheel. I have a Renegade wheel up front. My bike has 10 3/4 shocks in the back so there's not much to see as far as the rim is concerned. Your call though.

FFeric 03-24-2010 07:40 PM

I have an 18 inch rear wheel so there is more to see

Maddogs700srx 03-24-2010 07:49 PM

I am running the Roland Sands Contrast Cut Judge wheel up front and I had a Fat Boy wheel powdercoated black for the rear and I can't even begin to tell you how many people have complimented my "matching wheels" on my bike. I think a lot of it has to do with size and style of the wheels you are using. For some of us cost does actually matter!

07donkey 03-24-2010 08:40 PM

i have a foose 21 lusso on the front and a solid on the rear and it looks good. i wasn't going to pay $2000 for a rear wheel you can't see. jmo

CBNDSDADDY 03-25-2010 10:25 AM

About $1,500 per wheel. That doesn't include installation.

L@@king for a solid rear wheel

I put the HD 18' Reaper on the front (no matching wheel available for the rear) - it's a new wheel for early FLHX - it's actually a V-rod wheel. I was told.

Now I need to find something that works with that wheel so I am looking at the mirror solid chrome rear and leaving it at 16 to keep it lowered.

Does anyone have the solid whell? If so send me a photo or link to a photo.

I was in the same boat with the 18" Reaper on the front and no match for the rear available. I went with chromed stock FLHX rear. Looks great to me but if you lay your head on the ground you can probably see that they don't match.

I like the solid rear wheel. You can see it, but keep it clean and the chrome looks like your are looking through the wheel anyhow.

This is my ride

That solid rear wheel looks nice. And you don't have to lay down to see it.

silverbullitt 08-27-2010 11:52 AM

I did it. Chrome fatboy wheel on the rear, PM Gasser on the front. 2 reasons. The cost, and the ease of cleaning the rear wheel. It has 4" stretched bags, and all you really can see is the chrome rim. If I had a pocket full of money I would have put a Gasser on the rear.

Solid Wheel

Those all look great really like the solid wheel! That's the look I'm going for the chrome sets off the Black Pearl! Now HD Solid or RevTech RevPro wheel??????? And when I did the front I did ceramic bearings what a difference that made, so will do it again. Stopping by the HD shop on the way home NOW to order!

mike1158 08-27-2010 06:04 PM

this is something that i will consider when i switch my wheels.... especially since i am leaning towards keeping the stock size in the rear.. OHHHHHH !!!!!:icon_omg: ...... i usually hear alot of gasping when i say that...but the truth is i don't see the need for a bigger rim on the back..i actually think the 18" rear makes the back of the bike look higher alot of the time...plus i gotta think that a 16" tire rides a little better then an 18" tire. so with a 16" in the rear you REALLY dont see much of the back wheel other then the lip. The cleaning fator is a definate plus too...
BTW..my front will be a 19"...... max bling WITHOUT messing with the bikes geometry...i've been looking into this for the past few months and now the 2011 CVO SG comes with a 19" front...with a 130 tire JACKPOT...that CVO SG front setup might just find its way onto my bike...at $750 that 19" Agitator wheel is in the running.....

I have a 1200C on the back of mine....It set me back about 100 bucks.

KutenFLHX 08-27-2010 06:27 PM

I'd say swap out the rear. You can still see the rear wheel and I think it would look odd if they front and rear are not both chrome.
