Default So, really, is the cat in the 2010 that bad?

My version of the 10 starts great, runs wonderful, gets around 40 mpg, doesn't decel pop.

So, is that "cat" in the headpipe really costing much in terms of torque? I haven't dyno'd bike so I'm really only guessing, but it seems to run nearly as good as my 08 which was the same setup but it had the TTS tuner which this new one has not...yet.

Just curious...

Maybe 6 months ago I read where somebody dyno'd their stock bike then cut the cat out and dyno'd it again. There was a slight difference but within the margin of error, about 1 HP.
I used my TTS, tuned it up and cooled it down which was all good. The other advantage is that I can put the original map back in when, and if, it comes time for a smog check.

No, it's not that bad. I rode 4000 miles with it, ~2000 without. The heat's about the same (not bad). I did the full Stage 1 (Fatcat, Ventilator, TTS), so I've definitely got more power, but it certainly wasn't lacking when it was stock.

I've the 103 and 255 cam (same as the 08). I'm just wondering if the big bore (pumping more air) would be restricted a bit. I'm not "feeling" a huge difference between the two bikes. I'm just assuming that though pictures of the cat make it look awful restricted, that it really isn't that much--but I'm not sure, hence the post.

Thanks folks!

Here's one cut in half, you decided if it's obstructing air flow.

Yeah, I've seen these pictures..pretty dramatic, but I just was wondering if they were actually restrictive or just look like heck....

OK, that's ugly looking for sure. Question?
Is the restrictive air flow causing heat or is the material heating up and causing the heat?

Will a "saws-all" take out the material?

Is there a better way of removing the material other than cutting the exhaust in half? other than sending it off?

If you cut the exhaust in half, will the material fall out or is cutting and grinding required?

Cool Heat

The Heat from the Cat will kill ya....

After having my Ca. bike for 6k miles I picked up a 49 state no cat head pipe..what a diference...

If you keep the Cat. start looking at the wiring that sit right by it, it will start to fry....

Becareful parking in dry grass....

Steve at Fullsac claims it a 8 HP loss, Fuelmoto posted something about the heat difference of cat and no cat, quite a bit if I remember right.
