Remove Exhaust to Remove Heat Shields?

Do you have to remove the exhaust from the bike in order to remove the exhaust heat shields? I want to remove the heat shields from both header pipes to clean or replace them as they are imbedded with alot of crap that has "melted" into them.

Most heat shileds that I know of are usually held on with hose clamps... You shouldnt have to remove the exhaust. You have slipons, at the most, you might just have to remove those... They are SE, have you looked into replacements, if so, you should be able to download the install instructions and it should tell you.

Unless you have Vance and Hines head pipes, their heat sheilds are a real pain, they come right off with nut driver.

I believe stock headers have the heat shields on with worm clamps. Should be able to get them off without removing the exhaust.
