If you have a 5 spd and just want to cruise at high speeds a little smoother just add 2 teeth to the front belt pulley. Did on my '91 Evo and it worked great. Spend a lot of time at cruising speed so dropped the rpm's around 350. Taking off in 1st is a trip as it launches across the intersection. :-) Have an '07 Road King Po Po now with a 103 incher 6 spd and LOVE IT.

I seldom get OUT of 6th gear. The first 5 are just the means to the end.

Even cheaper to wear ear plugs! Best tuning aid ever.

2004 Sportster 883 with it's 5 gear transmission. I would like to
get a kit to a 6th gear OD
I'm in the Central Coast, I Love the canyon Rdies & back in the vineyards areas. I Love my 5 speed for doing all that. HOWEVER...
I'm wanting a 6th gear Over drive for longer trips of highway use.
I like my bike, eventually will do the boreing and build the 1200cc but I'm do want a 6th.
Any recommends on which tranny kits to use?

OVERDOO
GR BROWN is usually right but he is wrong about the Harley 6 speed being a overdrive in 6 gear it is direct drive they get the same ratios as the five speed in first through 5th
because they changed the gear ratios in the tranny to match the five speed with changed rear pulleys that gives the 6 gear a higher ratio than the five speed therefore your friend would have to change his trans sprocket and his rear pull to a 07 or newer

Default Overdoo

Overdoo If your friend Puts a H D six speed in his bike without changing the rear pully and the transmission sprocket his top gear will be the same as it is now

The original H-D 6-speed was indeed an OD and the conversion for older bikes is still available. Later ones went to direct drive.
