Lovely bike and a great story - enjoy the experience! Your photo brings back fond memories of an FLT in the same colours I hired back in 1985, from Dick Farmer H-D, when visiting Daytona and Florida that year.

Did it take you long to get used to the weight? Yesterday I bought a 2011 road glide after being on a sportster for many years. It is a big heavy bike and has me a little intimidated. I will find a big parking lot to practice.

Hi Doug, it took me a couple months to get used to the weight change, but now am very comfortable. Lots of parking lot practice!

Default Weight

Hi Doug
I found the weight very intimidating at first. I was worried about getting stuck at the bottom of an incline and not having the strength to pull the bike out of trouble. I could have done with a reverse gear. My bike came without rear footboards and although I bought a new pair, I left them off to have more room for my legs when paddling about. Yes I'm only 5 feet six inches. I avoided having a topped up tank except when setting off on a long ride and put extra luggage in the panniers rather than the trunk.
But the most important thing above and beyond all was to not let myself be put off by weight and to ride it as much as I could for as long as I could. I found that putting away miles brought back confidence and built understanding of what a fantastic lovely thing a touring Harley is. I did more miles in the months I've had this Glide than I have in years.
Aim for the horizon and pull the trigger!

you just make sure you have a firm footing when you stop the bike will do the rest.....slip and it's not being saved period.

I have owned Honda ST1100, Kawasaki Nomad,Honda Goldwing, Kawasaki Vaquero, and Indian Scout. I now have 2017 Street Glide and it handles better at low speeds than any of the aforementioned bikes. I think the geometry of your 2011 may be pre-Rushmore and therefor not as easy. But your parking lot idea is a good idea.
