Can't get fuel door locked on my Ultra, HELP, PLEASE
 

Okay, so I guess the problem I have could be worse. My fuel door I can't get closed and locked. Could be worse, though, I could have it where I can't get it unlocked, right?!.. Anyway, I gave my 09 Ultra a fill up today and I can't get this thing locked for the life of me. Any help or ideas? I tried a little WD40 to see if that would help but no luck. I just picked this 09 up a week ago and this is the first time I have filled her up. I've owned plenty of HD's in the past and never had this problem before.

The radial pin locks can be troublesome - for a start, does the key turn?

yup, I can turn the key.

first thing is the lock is worthless , any barrel key will unlock it , best thing to do is go to the dealer in the morning and get a smooth push button lock to replace the keyed lock , they work good and look great , was a post on here a while back on this same issue, seems those lock act up a lot , could stick shut to

yea, saw the post about the push button. may be the way to roll. Pisses me off though, all that money and something so simple goes wrong.... just glad it wasn't stuck shut. I was VERY close to empty. the push button an easy install? wonder if the dealer will give me one at N/C since this bike is under warranty?.

61029-92A is the lock pn# and is $20
53919-04A is the pushbutton pn# and is $27.95

Tell the dealer if it is a warranty issue, you'll pay $7.95 for the upgrade.

OK, well it's sounds like it's disconnected for the locking pawl - need to remove from the rear to check this.

I talked to 2 guys at bike night a couple of days ago, they said to go ahead and replace with button. His went out after about the 10th fill up.

I removed the lock and soaked it up with the WD and reinstalled and still no luck. Looks like a trip to the dealer tomorrow. I think the push button is what I will look to get. Hope they have them instock. I'm sure driving with the little door open wont hurt anything, right?

dumb question but for those of you that have installed this is it a matter of just swapping out the lock for the push button or do I replace the clip and hinge mount too??
