Upon picking up my SG from the dealer I asked why'd they put the strap on with the new seat I ordered, they replied that its required by law. If one's not on the bike when it comes in for work or servicing they're required to put one back on it & will charge for doing so! Have'nt taken it off as my youngest like holding on to it! Think its BS! Should be my option, I have a backrest!

It's a hyper-impediment seat removal device. Harley has a patent on it so don't even try to market one of your own.

Make sure your indy or dealer will inspect it without it. Had to have if it was a 2 up seat on the bike regardless if I had a backrest or not. I had to add it or take off the passenger pegs. . Needless to say I don't deal there anymore.

that seat strap was designed to keep dust off of the 2" wide strip of one of your shelves in your shop.

Agree it really is worthless, but I am going to check with my dealer before I remove it.

I'd quickly be off to another dealer or indy. They certainly wouldn't get my business with an attitude like that.

My "grab strap" is hanging on a nail in my shop, where it has been for over ten years.

If you just have to have it on there try this. I used two large-headed pop rivets on each side. You can take your seat off without having to open the toolbox and your passenger can use the strap if she wants to.

It's very useful in helping pick up the motorcycle.

When teaching riders the proper way to pick up the bike, I tell them to back into the seat, butt down, one hand palm side down on the grip nearest the ground, and hand one on the rear crash bar or seat grab strap. Some of the women riders I work with don't have long arms to grab the rear crash bar, so the seat grab strap is ideal for them. Those are the two points of leverage they will use while their legs are levering the bike upwards with small backward steps.
