If you have a dispute it's with the party that sold you the bike although he/she didn't fail to provide anything you requested. You didn't know a SERT "key" (it's actually a small black box) should accompany the bike you purchased. The original buyer either didn't know the importance of getting a "key" when the SERT was installed or for some reason didn't follow thru in getting the "key" when the SERT was installed. How are either or both of those oversights the responsibility of the dealer???

I doubt any dealer would fix this issue. At best you may get a discount on a new race tuner.

You don't need the "key" unless you plan on modifing the EFI settings however I'm guessing when you sell/trade this bike the buyer/dealer will require the "key" to the SERT accompany the bike.

+1 on dealer bashing. but I think they get a free pass on this one. If they took the used bike in on trade and then sold it to you I can see them splitting the cost of the key when you need it and they do the work, or some other resolution you agree on with them. But you need to get the seller to pony up on the key.

YMMV

Not sure if Canada is any different, but in the USA, private party vehicle sales are "as is" transactions. Too bad this happened, but the dealer has no obligation to you.

Thank you to all the respondents, this is a good example of why forums are so usefull and I truly appreciate your taking the time to provide your opinions. If this was a vote I would see the overwelming message to drop this. As with all letters I will give this some careful thought today and in the meantime the weather is great and I gotta go.

I agree the person you bought the bike from is the problem, not the dealer
