Shifter Levers and Splined Shaft

My 07 SG's toe shifter has stripped the splines on the shaft. Can this shaft be replaced without taking a bunch of other stuff out of the way, or am I going to have to primary cover off to get at it?

Thanks in advance.

I swear when I changed to the Kury flame linkage I said to myself...oh wow look at that this comes right out.....

Been a while but I think your going to find that an easy swap out....
See what someone else says...worse come to worse PM me and I'll look it up in the service manual...

The rear splines a different story...

bro, take a 1/4 inch shocket allen and take the heel toe shifters off. from the front of the bike, you will see the bolt for the rear linkage shift bar, take that off, pull the stripped shaft out. repleace everything, five minute job! really that easy

while your at it replace the ball and socket joints with hiem joints,, the ball is famous for snapping off when your in the rain on a sunday.

On my '91 it stripped and I reached back there and tack welded it - after a thorough cleaning of course.

On my 2000 it also stripped and I took a long jeweler's diamond tipped bit and drilled a hole between the Allen head screw and the lever perfectly piercing the shaft and dropped a 16d nail in it.

I did both of these things because you are looking at pulling the tranny to replace that shaft. I figured if either of these things failed - what the heck - I was going to have to pull the tranny anyway.... Sorry.

I think he's talking about the shaft that the toe shifters spline to.
That shaft comes right out......

Thats the one he needs to replace.....

Ya got to keep those pegs supper tight on the new shaft...they can get loose before you even realize they are loose......then you wind up stripping out the shaft.....easy job in the front.....hell in the rear:)

Great info everybody! Thanks! I've moved the toe shifter out where the heel shifter is supposed to be and that should last me until I get the new spline shaft in!

5/16" allen socket for the 'back' arm...replaced mine today. Easier on a cool engine.

If the shaft splines are stripped, chances are that the splines on the inside of the shifter arm is stripped also. I would replace the arm as well.
