Default Primary oil, how much

I've always put in a quart but was reading the owners manual and it says 38oz's. I've been doing to quart thing for years and years. And I know for a fact two dealers say a quart is what they use. Opinions?

Unless I'm mistaken, I think 38 oz is the amount specified for a complete drain, with the primary cover off, for instance. If I'm just changing the oil without removing the primary cover I just use a quart.

You need a service manual. Take inspection cover off and fill to just b4 it starts running out insp cover hole.

+1 with nemick. I think depending on what year your bike is there is a CAUTION or a NOTE in the manual stating this.

For the TC96 it's 38oz wet and 45oz dry with a complete drain (i.e. removing the primary cover, etc.) The best thing to do is fill it until it just covers the bottom of your clutch basket by about 1/2" or so. If you can do that with 32oz, kudos. I never can. I know it's a wet bath and the oil just gets slopped around in there so you may not have a problem with running 32oz but I just follow what the manual says.

Agree w/dawg - use the clutch basket as your guide w/bike level.

Agree with Dawg, just put in the amount called for in manual. 96" calls for 38 oz and I put in 38 oz. Older models use a quart.
