Im looking for a little input for a new deck for my new bike, I had a pioneer first on my 07 street glide and it went out twice due to water damage. I replaced it with a Kenwood KD-700 series and I do like that deck. Just wondering what others have tried. I am still a little leary about the aftermarket decks and the unforseen rain storm. Wondering if anyone has had good luck with other decks. I am running the arc mini amp with 4. 6 1/2" Hertz speakers. and the Hawg wired hand control module, works great. My only real requirements are that I can keep my ipod in the saddle bag and control it and charge it, and that the deck is readable in the sunlight.
I was going to recommend Alpine, and they are the best, as far as I'm concerned. I just looked and did a search on their page and they do not offer a marine grade head unit. What a shame, as I would have considered one for my Standard Glide.
A friend in the bus. told me years ago that their parent company was Luxman, makers of studio grade equipment. He was baffled as to why they stepped into the auto audio market. They do have the best anti skip capabilities on their CD player, and excellent radio reception as well. check them out for yourself: http://www.alpine-usa.com/product/
Look at the marine grade units. Water resistant and you can read the display better in the sun than an automotive unit.
Don't assume the marine grade units are the answer, I am on my 2nd Sony Marine grade. The 1st only got minimal moisture in the removeable face and all the buttons on the face quit working. A buddy of mine had the same model and the exact same thing happen. Sony has dis-continued that model and sent me the CDX-M60ui, it seems to be ok, but after the 1st I keep the Biketronics "Splash cover" on it anytime there is any chance of rain.
