I just picked up my latest ride. I picked up in Orlando and drove to Maryland this weekend. I was told the tank was 6 gallons.... The most i could get the tank to hold is 5.2 gallons. I ran the tank on the Reserve light until i had approx 16 miles left. Is there a such thing as a 6 gallon tank or is this just an approx from HD ?

 

I have an 11 SG, and I can hardly ever get a full 5 gallons in it, and I think I've only gotten over 5 gallons in it once. I ride it down until the miles to empty just register "LO" all the time.

I've never run out of gas, so all I can guess is that we must have a full gallon left when it registers that we're out.

 

i wonder if the tanks are really 6 gallons. i guess the only way to find out is to run out of gas..

 

Well, I guess we could rock, paper, scissors to see who will be the one to run it dry.

I don't know how much it would mess things up with the fuel injection to run it out of gas though.

 

It is 6 gallons. They couldn't advertise it was otherwise. What is lying to you is the gas gauge. I run mine to blow "r20" all of the time and never get more 5 gallons to go in.

Yesterday I ran to to Lo and kept going at least another 10 miles. Filled it right to the top and got 5.2 gallons in it.

They do that so you don't starve the filter or run out of gas.

 

After your low fuel light comes on, you have more than a gallon left. The display may say that you have X miles remaining until empty, but there is still another 1/2 gallon or more past that. I think the most I have put in was 5.4 gallons (was really low)

When you got 5.9 in the tank. Did you notice what your miles remaining was? Were you on "Lo" more than 10 miles?

I've been on "Lo" for about 5 miles and pushed 5.4 gallons in mine.

 

I have gotten close to 6 in my 2011 RGU. I notice that it takes patience filling to that level and pump that does not have too much pressure. It will seem like it takes over 5 gallons but if you keep slowly filling it will keep taking fuel and not over flow.
