What's wrong?

Changed all the oils in my baby tonight to put it away for the winter and a gallon of oil came out of my primary and only a quart out of the motor. I added a quart of oil last time I went out, and was concerned it was so low but figured it was from running hard the last couple thousand miles. My primary oil was very dirty and lots of shavings on the plug. My bike is under warranty and the dealer in town takes good care of me so I know it'll get fixed but i'm curious. Is the motor going to be ok after running so low on oil? Why didn't my clutch slip with so much oil in the primary? Thanks for any input.

Silly question did you remove the dipstick while draining? If not the oil only trickles out.

Crank seal might be shot.

Will everything be ok after a new seal gets put in? I ride pretty hard and hope I didn't damage the motor with so little oil in it. Thanks for the feedback guys

If it is the crank seal, I'd be more concerned with why it went. Did you have the compensator changed to the SE or did you have your stock compensator retorqued? I'd have the shop check the crank runout and make sure the crank is ok as well.

Didn't touch the compensator. I'll have them check the crank when I get it in. Thanks for the feedback.

Crank seal is definitely suspect. You can verify by putting in some florescent leak detection in your motor oil and checking the primary after running it. This test is foolproof and I would do that before they take apart the stock build. JMO

It was the crank seal and i'm told the crank run out is within spec. Thanks for the feedback guys
