Default change inner fairing

I was thinking about putting a painted inner fairing on my bike, I was wondering how hard of a job it is??

Let me make a suggestion . . . Go to the User CP and enter a signature so we all know what model and year you own. Might help us help you.

All depends on your mechanical abilities. Just pay close attention to detail, make sure you know the routing of the wire harness. Be sure to use wire ties when you put it back together to keep the wires from rubbing on brackets and stuff. If you have a ridio I would suggest getting a long ball allen socket. Makes life alot easier. Otherthanthat, you migh want to do a search here on ignition switch removal, there is a pretty decent video on how to remove it.

On a novice's scale of 1 to 10 I'd say it's only a 6. Take your time and mark the wires as you take them off.

Start here on how to remove the ignition switch. It's the hardest part: https://www.hdforums.com/forum/touri...h-removal.html

After that if you can get your hands on a manual it will be a little time consuming but actually pretty easy.

Service manual gives you step by step not that hard to do. Take your time take pictures of harness routings to refer to when going back together. Don't force anything going back together.

It's not all that hard on a batwing. Just takes a while. And it's pretty easy to figure out where all the wires go when you have it back together.

I've ridden a Softail Duece since '02 and got my Ultra Limited in Sept. '10. I thought I had enough work keeping the painted parts of the Duece shiny and sparkling, but the Ultra Limited has brought a new appreciation for the simplicity of the Duece.

I saw a few bikes at the dealer with the painted inner's and they do look nice, but ****, I've got enough paint to keep waxed on the Limited the way it is. I'm sticking with the stock satin set-up.

Dealer will charge you 4 hours of labor, if you do a search, you can find threads on the subject, takes most guys between 3-6 hours to do depending on what other projects you are doing. I would say the fairing part of it took me between 3-4 hours by myself.

If you find a takeoff fairing and have it painted then you can do a swap with minimum down time and sell your takeoff, keeps the cost to a minimum...Most are getting them painted between $125 and $175 depending on where you live.

That stock inner starts to look pretty crappy after a few years. Gets sun damaged like the plastic on cars.
