Default Durability of S&S 585 Cams

Just curious of those that have used these cams, to the longevity and reliability of the valve train because of the high lift design of them. With these being a high lift cam has anyone had any failures that were linked to high lift aggressive cams? As you can see I have these in my build and am concerned with reliability and longevity of the engine. I have already had a lifter give way a couple years back which was a S.E. design and was told that these S.E. lifters were the problem and not the cam. I am getting some information now that the cam may have contributed as well. Just kicking around options for the winter and looking for opinions. Thanks to all in advance for any and all replies.

Wondering the same. Anybody have any valve train issues with these cams?

Had all S&S 106 build on my previous ‘09 Dyna and it was badass!!! Ran “quiet” as could be with the D&D pipe.

Since you installed S&S cams you should have gotten other stuff internals from them...can’t go wrong with S&S stuff. 585 is high, but not as aggressive as many others. I’ve heard Woods have high ramps and beat up the top end. I wouldn’t worry one bit with the S&S 585’s.

Had to get rid of the bike for other reasons, so didn’t have high mileage on the setup, but it was a beast!

Dang. Was thinking of returning the 585's for my 103 build, in my 08 Fat Bob, with 10:5 pistons and head work, for the Woods 555's. Now I am not sure. Thought with the lower lift, reliability would be better for putting some high miles on, as thats what I plan to do. I guess ramp angle would have a lot to do with that as well.

585’s work great at 10.5:1. That’s the setup I ran & wouldn’t ever change.

I run these, and they pull hard through the entire rpm range in any gear.
